IELTS EXAM

IELTS is designed to test one's skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking in English. It is conducted jointly by the university of Cambridge ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Examinations, British Council and IDP: IELTS Austria. It is mandatory for immigration purpose to English speaking countries and for candidates who wish to enter such countries for jobs or studies. Around 7 Lakh people across the world take this test at 300 test centers in 120 countries every year. IELTS has 48 fixed test dates each year. IELTS scores are valid for two years only.

Eligibility criteria for IELTS Test:

Candidates under the age of 16 are not eligible for this test
Candidates who are applying to study in UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and US can opt for this test
Medical professionals who are planning to work or follow further studies in the UK, Austria or US are also eligible
People opting to emigrate to any English speaking country need to take this test.

Two tests - Academic / General Training

IELTS GENERAL

The IELTS General Training test is for those who are going to English speaking countries for secondary education, work experience or training programs. It is also a requirement for migration to Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK. The test focuses on basic survival skills in broad social and workplace contexts.

IELTS ACADEMIC

The IELTS Academic test is for people applying for higher education or professional registration in an English speaking environment. It reflects some of the features of academic language and assesses whether you are ready to begin studying or training.

IELTS Academic test format

Listening* (30 minutes)	Four recorded monologues and conversations
Reading (60 minutes)	Three long reading passages with tasks Texts may include diagrams, graphs or illustrations Texts are taken from books, journals, magazines and newspapers
Writing (60 minutes)	(20mins. Task) Summaries , describe or explain a table, graph, chart or diagram (40mins. Task) Short easy task of at least 250 words
Speaking* (11 to 14 minutes)	Face-to-Face interview without disruptions or distractions Includes short questions, speaking at length about the given topic and a structured discussion

IELTS General Test format

IELTS Listening test (30 minutes)	You will have to listen to four recordings and then answer the questions asked. The recordings are of native English speakers and the duration of the test is 30 minutes.
IELTS Reading test (60 minutes)	The IELTS Reading test requires you to answer 40 questions and is designed to test you on an array of reading skills. You would have to read for gist, main ideas, details, logical arguments, skimming, and figuring out the writers’ attitudes, opinions and intentions.
IELTS Writing test (60 minutes)	(20 mins. Task ) Letter Writing, (40mins. Task) Short easy task of at least 250 words
IELTS Speaking Test (11-14 minutes)	The IELTS Speaking test assesses your spoken English skills. The test is recorded and conducted in three parts.

COURSE MODULE FOR IELTS (ACADEMIC/GENERAL)

Module I

Task 1 - would contain either a diagram, table or graph. You will be required to recapitulate and define the given data in your own words. You may be asked to explain a certain data entry, process the given information or a flowchart to logically arrive at a conclusion.

Task 2- One needs to write an essay as a response to one’s deduction from the given topic with relevant examples, through the given data. Please note that the writing style should be strictly formal.
